The local community college was the real stepping stone for me where I really got to learn how the camera & darkroom process worked. While taking classes I soon ended up being the photo lab tech which was a such a great job to have; mixing chemicals, checking out cameras & helping students. And I spent a great deal of my time shooting & experimenting - one timeI even made some film that worked, well sort of, with an emulsion that I'd created.
In 1979 I graduated from Brooks Institute of Photography in Santa Barbara, CA. and over the years have photographed a variety of assignments for the AP wire service, the LA Times and other news publications. For a time I wrote for newspapers too, hopping abroad Coast Guard boats, helicopters, CHP cruisers for ride alongs to shoot photos or write an article.
I've been teaching photography at local LA high schools for 30+ years and adult education classes for the Beverly Hills School District for the past six years & now the Beverly Hills Parks & Rec. I've also taught digital photography & computer classes during the summer for elementary kids too. I continue to teach privately as well. And thanks to Adobe I'm a beta-tester for Photohshop and I'm a co-organizer of a Photoshop Users Group (LAPUG) http://www.meetup.com/PhotoshopLA/ We're LA's own Photoshop learning & sharing community of sincere Photoshop users, students and teachers. We have monthly meetups & presentations and its free to join.
